Disciplinary Measures

Discipline plays an important role in building a nation and is essential in all walks of life. It is of utmost importance in a student’s life. A student must obey his/her teachers, abide by the school rules and be respectful towards all. It has been the constant endeavour of the school to imbibe values, instill discipline and inculcate good habits in the students. Hence, in order to enforce discipline in the students, the school will take action against the defaulters or students who flout the regulations and norms of conduct, as laid down by the school.

A Yellow Card will be issued by the Discipline Committee for a period of 3 days. This is to be signed by the Class Teacher, Rep. and the Parent. This is also to be signed after every period by the concerned subject teacher. At the end of 3 days, the card has to be signed by the Principal and returned to the Rep. Three yellow cards will mean suspension from school for a minimum of three days. The yellow card will be issued on the following grounds:

  • Missing classes (bunking), Assembly, SUPW, Library, PE etc.
  • Inappropriate behaviour in and outside school premises.
  • Cheating during any test or examination.
  • Damaging school property.
  • Bringing objectionable items to school.
  • Any other act of indiscipline as deemed by the Discipline Committee.

Note:

  • Any student against whom disciplinary action has been taken will not be eligible for scholarships, awards or School trips.
  • Any incidence beyond the rules of school will directly call for suspension and the school reserves the right to take such action without any advance notice.
  • Kindly note that the school does not endorse or support any party/get together of students which is not age appropriate or is held outside the school premises. The school is liable to take strict action against those who use the school’s name for such events or are found being involved in any financial transaction within school.

Examination/Assessment

“Don’t strive only for high grades, Always strive for higher learning“

  • No unfair means should be used by a student during examinations. In case a student is found using any unfair means, strict disciplinary action will be taken against the student.
  • It is mandatory for each student to give all Pen-and-Paper and Non Pen-and-Paper Tests/ Exams/ Assessment conducted by the school.
  • In case of sickness, the student should not report to school for appearing for Tests/ Examinations. The student is required to submit a Medical Certificate from a registered medical practitioner, failing which grades will not be awarded.
  • If the child is representing the school for any event/ competition, he/she would be allowed to give a retest only with the prior permission of the Principal.
  • There will be Retests for Half Yearly/ Annual Exam/ Pre-board Exam, only if there is some emergency. To take the retest, an application stating the reason/proof of his/her absenteeism must be sent on ERP. The application is to be signed by the Principal, only then can he/she appear for the retest. However, if the student fails to report on the day of retest, NO RE-RETEST would be further conducted. The percentage will be calculated by awarding a zero to the subject.
  • Leave for religious ceremonies or special occasions must be obtained beforehand.

However, no average marks will be given if one avails leave of this nature.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS

Parental encouragement and support for learning activities at home combined with parental involvement in schooling is critical to children’s education. The support and collaboration of parents, is in all cases considered indispensable for the success of the scholastic & co-scholastic plan of the school.

  • Parents' positive co-operation with the school is absolutely essential for the constructive upbringing of their ward. Hence, they are requested to make the teaching learning process more fruitful by:
  • Urging their wards to be regular and punctual to school.
  • Checking the school almanac on a regular basis.
  • Ensuring that their wards are diligent and regular in completing their assignments, homework and lessons.
  • Helping their wards to make and implement a study time table and thereby create a positive environment where the child can study independently.
  • Encouraging their children to take active part in classroom discussions, doubt solving and submission of assignments/projects and not to be a defaulter.
  • Insisting on neatness and cleanliness in their text books, exercise books and personal appearance. There should be a name tag on blazers and sweaters.
  • Instilling the habit of sending home-made food in their lunch boxes. Junk food could be avoided.
  • Educating their wards to respect civic rules by not allowing minors to drive two wheelers like motor bike/scooters and cars.
  • Parents must ensure that their ward wears the Identity Card on him/her. All details are to be mentioned clearly. Change in address or phone number is to be informed officially at the school office. Any medical problem faced by your ward should be informed to the class teacher in writing at the beginning of the session and also entered in the medical record given in the almanac.
  • Any appointment with the Principal should be made in advance. Parents may meet the school authorities by seeking a prior appointment through e-mails only.
  • Parents can meet the teachers with prior appointment only. Kindly seek a prior appointment with the concerned teacher through ERP. Please do adhere to the time allotted for the meeting.

  • Parents are requested to be personally present in all the Parent Teacher meetings, interact with the teachers, take the feedback in a constructive manner, work on suggestions recommended by teachers. They should also adhere to the timings specified for the PTMs.
  • Parents/guardians should refrain from making false allegations or spreading rumours or giving false information which tends to bring into disrepute, the school or its employees.
  • Criticism of the teacher or the institution in the presence of their children should be scrupulously avoided because it may lead to loss of respect for their teacher as well as the school.
  • Periodical reports, and the Report Card, will keep parents/guardians informed about the progress of their wards.
  • The school almanac is a very important document. All communication and important instructions are sent to the parents either through the almanac or on the ERP. Therefore, it is mandatory for the students to carry the almanac daily to school and keep it safely. If a child loses/misplaces his/her almanac, he/she can get a new one issued for Rs 400.
  • The School campus is a tobacco free and a non - smoking zone at all times.
  • Exemplary behaviour is expected from all parents in the school campus.

  • Though the school takes good care of all the students while they are in school, the school cannot be held responsible for any self inflicted or accidental mishap/injury, physical or otherwise, that may befall them.
  • The school contact number should be used in case of emergency/enquiry. Parents are requested to respect the privacy of the teaching faculty and administrative staff and abstain from causing any disturbance through telephonic calls/house visits for any official purpose.
  • The Identity Card is very important for every student because it makes it possible for others to verify one’s identity for all security & identification purposes. Kindly note that if the ID card is lost, a payment of Rs 300 will be made to get a new one.

ANTI – BULLYING NORMS

Bullying lowers self-esteem, interferes with everyone’s right to be respected, to learn and to be/feel safe. Hence DPSI has zero tolerance to bullying, physical or mental, in cyber space or otherwise, and obscenity or sexual offences by anyone in school.

The term Bullying implies any of the following:

  • Physical and verbal attacks, including repetitive teasing, harsh comments and slander.
  • Violence and physical aggression leading to hurt or intimidation especially against junior students, by forcibly taking their belongings, food etc.
  • All direct or indirect remarks of obscene or sexual nature against the other gender.
  • All acts of discrimination leading to lowered self-esteem.
  • The destruction of someone’s material possessions.
  • Cyber bullying and online humilation by posting or subcribing to posts offensive to another.
  • Inappropriate phonecalls, e-mails, messages, use of photographs and other media sources involving the victim.
  • PDA, sharing objectionable material, carrying obscene material to school, including digital material on phone devices, even if not shown to others, is a serious violation of school norms. It will be dealt with strictly and might lead to rustication from school.
  • Carrying phones or other digital devices, which is in contravention of explicit school norms is a serious offence and will invite disciplinary action.
  • Counselling is an essential part of the School system, and it is the responsibility of the parents to counsel their children and give consent that the child may be counselled in the School, whenever that is required.

Most importantly, since bullying includes all actions leading to humilation, lowered self-esteem, fear, physical or mental torture and peril to the individual, hence every incident has to be brought to the notice of the school authorities. Incidents of bullying will thus involve strict action and may attract rustication.

It is a collective responsibility of the students, teachers and parents to maintain a bullying free environment and promote an atmosphere that respects diversity and originality by encouraging positive speech and action and working together to resolve any bullying incident that might occur.

ANGER-FREE SCHOOL

“Anger and intolerance are the enemies of correct understanding.“

All of us will agree that a joyful learning environment and happy school can do wonders for the holistic development of our children. A learning abode like a school must be devoid of any kind of negativity so that we can contribute and make the world a better place for our children, by infusing positivity in everything around them. Anger is detrimental to fitness. Therefore, as per the guidelines of the Central Board of Secondary Education, DPSI urges all its stake holders to make efforts to convert the school into an Anger - Free Zone.

In this Anger –Free Zone, everyone will try to manage his/her anger, whether it is the Parents, School personnel or other stakeholders. The best way to teach children the value of ‘freedom from anger’, is by setting examples ourselves.

Making the school Anger-Free will help our students in developing Affective Skills and in eradicating emotions like Fear, Disrespect, Humiliation and Hurt, which are the by- products of anger. This change in the school environment will help our children become emotionally strong and healthy. They shall go back home more charged and happy and definitely will want to return to their school the next day.

We are sure that all our stakeholders will make this little effort to make the school become an Anger-Free Zone and make our children happy, joyous and active learners, ready to face the future with a smile on their lips and a spring in their steps!
